I am interested in re-painting the argent sections of my styled steel wheels. The argent is wearing off in a few sections exposing the underlying chrome.
The wheels are one of the few areas of the car that received no attention during my restoration.
Has anyone re-painted their SS wheels? I am trying to determine the best method to create a nice chrome/argent line.
Tape it off, or forget the tape and use solvent to remove excess/create the line?
Joe, I used tape on mine to mask off the chrome and the black wheel in order to paint the argent. There sure may be another method that is better but it worked alright for me. Trivia, the wheels on my car came from a Tucson salvage yard, they were found on a half buried Studebaker.
Thanks Jeff. That will be my project for tomorrow. I have to do the pinch welds one of these days too.
Looks like you have correct 1967 14x5.5 SS wheels?
I believe mine are reproductions…mine are 14x6 and have the smaller 68+ window…which is good because the 1967 14x5.5 wheels would not have cleared my 1970 front disc brakes.
That picture is of a '67 wheel that I restored along with the '68s that I found in Tucson. I do have the '68 wheels on the car. I have 2 '67’s for sale if someone wants them someday. One restored and one not restored.
