Styled steel wheels

Currently my '68 Cougar has 14 rims and I’m thinking of going to 15x6 styled steel wheels. Looking for these wheels on line offers a variety of prices. So the question is are they all manufactured by the same company and is anybody running this setup. My car is a grecian gold XR7 with a black vinyl roof. If you have pictures I would enjoy seeing them. Also would like to know what size tires you are running, lettered or whitewall. Thank you

Joe

The original reproduction Cougar SS Wheels were developed and manufactured by Tom Sensabaugh, who was the founder and owner of Specialty Wheels, LTD in Sandy, Oregon. In the Fall of 1995, Tom and I spoke by phone on several occasions. Tom made the very 1st set of (5) SS Wheels that were built using; 69-70 chrome centers, 14" x 7" chrome bands, and with Dark Argent color between the spokes for me. That wheel set looked great on our Black 70 XR7 Convertible. IMHO… the quality of Tom’s reproduction wheels was top notch. After Tom’s passing in October of 2005, his company was eventually acquired by Coker Tire.

Thank that was exactly what I needed to know. Your car looks super shod in them.

Why not go to a 15 x 7 wheel, it’ll make the car look much nicer, that inch in width makes a big difference in rubber on the road, and there is no problem with fitment

My tire guy suggested the 15 x 6 but I will go back and ask. He has always but spot on with his suggestions but combined wisdom here might be more accurate. Thanks

Hello Joe, I would agree with cobrasc427 on the band (rim) width. The 7" width will offer a better sidewall appearance with a 70 or 65 series radial tire. With standard offset construction, there will not be clearance issues with the front fender wheel openings. My 14" wheels were 7" wide.

Thank you
