sunroof seal

I bought this seal from WCCC “Seals - ASC - Power Sun Roof - Repro ~ 1967 - 1973 Mercury Cougar ( 1967 Mercury Cougar, 1968 Mercury Cougar, 1969 Mercury Cougar, 1970 Mercury Cougar, 1971 Mercury Cougar, 1972 Mercury Cougar, 1973 Mercury Cougar ) at West Coast Classic Cougar :: The Definitive 1967 - 1973 Mercury Cougar Parts Source” and about to install it.
Question is how it should be mounted.
On my sunroof (SR) there was, originally, a seal but this was only a short piece at the back of the SR and ended maybe 10 cm to the sides of the sunroof.

Now, the seal i bought was long but not so long that it could go around the whole sunroof (see picture)

So, question is:

  1. Is the seal to short?
  2. Is this the correct way to mount it?

(I have the rubber seal that I will glue to the back of the sunroof, if i cant find a replacement, as it were originally.)

/Kenneth

The seal pictured goes on the body around the inner opening and terminates at the rear corners. The other seal goes on the back of the sliding panel and when closed, mates up to the ends of the body seal.

Many thanks for the answer!
Aha, so this seal should not be on the sliding roof but on the car itself i.e. it should not be attached as shown in the picture.
That makes sense actually!
The other seal you mention, is that the rubber seal ?
Originally on my roof there was a worn out seal, like the one in the picture, attached to the back of the sliding roof and behind that a rubber seal.

If there should be another seal, as in the picture, to the back of the sunroof as well…, then I will need another piece of this seal
do you have any picture?

The seal on the back of the sliding panel is of the same felt type material as the seal you asked about. When the roof is closed, the seal on the sliding panel connects with the body seal to provide a leak proof seal. Wrap the sliding panel seal slightly around the rear corners so that it contacts the ends of the body seal when closed.
