Surprise transmission

When I bought my car in August, being a 67 standard 289, I assumed it had a C4 transmission. Since it was shifting and driving, I hadn’t paid much attention to it, but there were some things that weren’t making much sense. For one thing, there was no vacuum modulator hooked up. For another thing, when I replaced the transmission coolant lines a few weeks ago, one of them didn’t fit right at all.

Having finally gotten the motor sorted out, I decided to take a serious look at it tonight.

Yep, it’s an AOD.

I’m actually pretty thrilled with the discovery since that was on my list of possible upgrades to make this a good driver. Of course, at the very least it needs a new parking pawl and it may be due for a rebuild, but it looks like someone else did the heavy lifting on this conversion.

DOn’t know what an AOD is. But congrats!

Automatic Overdrive

Cool.

It almost makes up for the mess of mismatched brackets and accessories the previous owner left on the front of the motor … almost.
