Switched from flat tappet to a roller heavy vibration

Hey guys, I have a 68 mercury Cougar that I recently replaced the motor in. I switched from the original flat tappet to the roller due to finding metal shavings in my engine. once motor was installed and running, there was a heavy vibration I believe comes from having the incorrect balancer exactly which balancer should I have for this particular engine? I really need the help.

Well it might help if we knew exactly which engine you have.

We are going to need a whole lot more info to help! Alot of the roller cams have the HO and 351 firing order, but without knowing what motor, year, and what was changed . . . I cant help much!

Hey Royce and Shawn thank you for responding my apologies. I have a 5.0 HO it came out of 88 fox body.

5.0 engines from that era used a 50 oz 4 bolt balancer. It’s unique to the application and serpentine belts are what fits.

What flex plate did you use?

I’m glad you mentioned the flex plate because honestly I feel like that’s the culprit. I recently replaced the balancer thinking that was the problem but the heavy vibration is still there. I can feel it coming from around the transmission area and it is the same flex plate that was used for the previous motor which was a 302 flat tappet.

Flat tappet is 28oz imbalance. Roller cam is 50oz imbalance to match roller cam damper

Like Leon suggests the flexplate needs to be applicable to a roller motor. Those are 50 oz imbalance too.
