Tail light sockets replacement

I’m trying to figure out how to replace a bad socket on my 72 Cougar. How do I remove the old one and how would I install the new one. Looks like they are glued in

The plastic/rubber bulb sockets either clip in or need to be rotated 90 degree to remove.

It’s possible that a previous owner added the glue at some point. A heat gun may help to soften things up.

If you are replacing the whole socket assembly they are pressed in, you can gently tap them out with a socket. Or you can cut the wires and plastic covering right behind the light socket and pull out the wires and circular insulator and replace them and then use heat shrink with a jell and re splice the wires. I have new complete sockets I use with a small amount of epoxy and rewire them.
