"The Parts Car"

I did some work on the floorpans today. All welded up, primed, sealed, and painted.

Where are you located?

I get the rat rod project idea but why not start with an $800 car? $400 more on the front end nets you thousands of dollars and time saved. In the end you will not regret spending time in the shop with your pals vs in front of the TV. You have a really nice set up there.

Near Porter, TX, just North of George Bush Airport.

Make sure and salvage that radio surround and AM radio. You can probably get half the cost of the car back out of it.

I know the business your in and have enjoyed quite a few of your videos. This car, even to a person that salvages old Cougars had almost zero value, every panel is rusted or has giant dents, interior thrashed, engine locked up. Here’s the thing though, if it doesn’t have to be perfect, if the goal is to have fun and just look cool doing it, this car has potential. Sometimes its fun pulling something from a field, pulling out “nothing” and making it something.

Got any nasty patina blue hoods that would match? :0

I think you could easily spend $5K for rust repair on that car if you did most of the work yourself and already own a MIG welder. You would have been better off finding a better unit body to start with.

5k, wow. I’m pretty sure she will all be patched up for under 1k including the welder.

Scored some really nice seats from the junkyard.

Just chipping away at the interior rust repair

The floor pans are all done! Used a ton of metal. I used patches from the Suburban, old motorcycle fenders, and some sheet steel. Everything is welded, primed, painted, and sealed. I think this car should be named “patches”

I know the color looks funky and its going to get some carpet, but seriously this color is very similar to the color of the car.

Ok, I got the video edited. I calculated up the cost today, I did the floor for $300. Video link to the floor repair below.

You must have a creative accounting method.

Nice

Please don’t insinuate that I am lying. I’m not sure what to tell you. The pans were $100 on eBay and the other $200 was supplies to finish the job. Maybe watch the video?

I’m not insinuating anything. But as I suspected you are leaving things out. There’s a cost to everything including pieces you may have taken from other sources and your labor. If you want to use a cost basis to compare your project against others you have to compare apples to apples. Otherwise you might just say “I only spent $X dollars on this part of the build.”

Add $$$ to your budget for the missing hood and dash.
What kind of paint job are you going to do? Rattle can or automotive paint?

No paint job. I like the barn fresh look

I’ve been watching the videos. Appreciate the detail & tools. Thanks!

I did cringe on the cutout fender. That looked like a decent truck…

From the intros it looks like this will not be a daily driver. So that sets up my question.

Barn fresh look will continue to rust, is that not a concern?

Now Mike, look at the picture of the driver’s side rear 1/4, and ask that question again.
