The Snow Cat

My first Cougar was a 1969 I got as a junior in high school (1976). It was a black coupe with a 351W and a FMX auto that had been UPGRADED. For those old enough to remember we had global cooling going on back then and LOTS of snow for Kentucky. The local hangout was a pizza parlor where one of my friends, Steve, worked as a delivery driver, he had a 69 Mustang. One of my other friends, Matt, was a wrecker driver who drove a 67 Cougar with a 390. To make a long story short one evening we got about 6" of snow in a little over 5 hours. The town was shut down, every restaurant in town closed, all the stores etc. even the cops were staying at the station. We were the only thing open. Steve, Matt and myself all had chains on our cars and we delivered a weeks worth of pizza that night. We were sliding around corners throwing rooster tails 20 feet in the air. That was FUN!

Cool story. Do you still have the Cougar?
Steven

No. I sold that Cougar in 1982 to help pay for the only new car I have ever had, a 1982 Z28 Camaro. The guy I sold it to had it until he died last year and now his son-in-law has it. It has sat for the past 6+ years outside with the drivers window busted out, shot out by the kid next door with a BB gun. I tried to buy it back but they would not even entertain the idea, they were going to “fix it up”. I am sure the interior is all shot and the floorboards rusted out. It is a shame it was a great car. I had ported the heads and added a Holly Street Dominator intake with a Holly 725 double pumper. Crane Fireball cam and Hooker headers. With a TransGo shift kit in the trans I shifter manually, 0-60 in 1st, shift to 2nd, about 110 shift to drive, it would chirp the tires at 110! As the speedo only went to 120 I am not sure of the top end but it was WELL above 120. Wonder I lived out of my teen years.

I have another Cougar I got last Fall. It is a 69, 351-W, FMX, Green and primer. Has some rust behind rear window and right rear frame rail and trunk floor. Along with the whole car I got another L & R front fender, L & R door, padded dash, instrument cluster, metal lower dash, steering column, another set of seats both front and back, rear side panels, hood, trunk lid and extra set of tail lights. Car runs but gets about 20 miles to the quart of oil. Got it all for $2,500. Guy had been out of work for over a year and I think his wife said sell it or else. I plan to start restoration this Fall. Very cool story up to the point of selling a Cougar so you could buy a Z28. :poke:
Glad to hear you have another Cougar. Welcome to the Classic Cougar Community.
