There are times in life that change your plans for you and times you just need to make a decision and I’m finding myself in both right now. I’m thinking of selling my 68 cougar! And I haven’t even finished it.
Here is what I have,
It’s a rust free 68 standard that has had the body stripped and epoxy painted. It is a Rust free California car that when I say rust free, ok there are a couple spots. One is just under the battery tray in the apron with a few pinholes about an inch across, caused from battery acid. The other is just under the lip of the hood, but not bad. The car came with AC, power steering and standard 4 wheel drum brakes. I have been buying up all the parts to make this car the one I wanted. So there are some options when selling this car.
Of the parts I have obtained for the car most are brand new. The parts that are not new will be a full 68 XR7 wiring harness from front to back. The standard harness is still in tact and in place. The vinyl seats are Ivy Gold and in like new condition for the front. The back seat looks good, but when it was in storage, a cat thought it would be nice to sink its claws into. Although the spots are not deep, you can run your hand over the base of the seat and feel the picky spots the cat left from its claws. The dash has been re-chromed and the dash top pad is in new condition. There is also a new chrome radio bezel included.
The doors are in great shape, no rust, but where the tag was for the trim codes, is missing and was dinged in, with what looks like a hammer. There was body fill over this spot and I took ground it out to see why this was done and for the life of me can’t say why. This area can be bumped back into shape and has no other effect on the rest of the door. The fenders are also rust free.
There is also over $2100 in XR7-G parts for this car. Both, passenger and driver side mirrors, both custom mirror bases, “G” emblems for roof and dash. There is an original headlight emblem on the passenger sidelight that needs reconditioning. Third horn, Black “G” door panels front and back. The backer boards have been changed and are fresh. XR7-G trunk emblem, Fog light buckets, Lucas Fog lights, Hood scoop that was made in a mold from an original “G” scoop and console insert for cubby storage. There is also the Mahogany G shifter handle as well.
Other parts are speaker pods, Rear defog, another set of black seats from a 69 with head rests. I was going to use these and re-skin them with XR7 black leather. Console, stainless door edge trim, two XR7 clocks that have been serviced and ready to go. A clock maker that is a friend of mine repaired the clocks. The overhead console is also black and in like new condition with the bracket to go with it. The brakes were going to be changed over to power and I have a new 4 wheel master cylinder and booster. The brake lines are all stainless as well as the Braded stainless lines for the front and rear. I have front spindles from my 71 XR7 that will be going with this as well.
The bumpers have been re-chromed and the 4 wheel well trim pieces have been reconditioned and anodized. The side window hockey sticks are brand new and all the window felts and rubber are new also. The rear end is a Lincoln Versailles with disk brakes and a 2:79 gear. There is a new set of 3:50 gears as well. There are also new bearings for the rear end also.
On top of that there is a full XR7 wiring harness front to back, full set of rubber seals and many parts I have not talked about.
As for the motor and trans, it is a 351C that has been balanced and blue printed with the cylinders opened up to .030 over. The Cam is a Comp Cams XE262-H . The pistons are speed pro
TRW with coated skirts, rods balanced and then the whole assembly balanced. The block was magneflexed and line bored, and then the deck was cleaned up. The heads are Aussi and ported. There are also a Set of new springs and Ferrea valves “stainless” There is also a new Performer intake and a 750 Edelbrock carb with chock and kit. The cobra style air cleaner with running cat and aluminum black wrinkle finish valve covers also come with it. I have $4900 invested into the motor.
There is also a Rebuilt C6 that has the works added to it with a shift kit and extra clutches.
The radiator is in great shape and the AC condenser is brand new, never used.
Lastly I have some NOS rear side marker/reflectors both sides. There are also NOS door handles and buttons, $692 in parts.
So here is what I have and it you just want the body and parts without the “G” parts, then that is not a problem. If you don’t want the motor, I’m fine with that as well. I’m open to work with the new owner.
I have at least $16,000 invested so far with everything. I’m willing to take less and even omit things like the motor, or “G” parts from the price.
I know I will not get what I have into it and if I could do it without selling the car, would be great.
I will post pictures later of the parts and car.
It would be great to hear comments to what would be a good price for everything or less motor and trans or even the “G” parts.
Thanks,
Dennis
