Remember not all power steering pumps were that color. If I can find the information on what ones I’ll post it.

I don’t like that color, to me it is not right. To light.

I’m not a fan either. I get that in some cases it’s “correct” and that’s cool for the concours guys, but I just think it’s ugly and clashes with the blue engine. Satin black for me!

Is it because you feel it doesn’t match original examples of the color ?

Yes I belive it is not a match. I took my power steering can to a paint store and matched to what I though is the correct shade.

correct color is PPG Dark Sapphire Blue Poly.

I had it made in DCC concept- single stage -Acrylic Urethane 4-2-1 ratio

Supplier Identification Pump Color
TRW On tag – “W” 2nd digit in bottom line Black
Ford Thompson On tag – “F” in center line Teal/Blue

As I recall, the paint I used was from NPD (teal) and it was a very good match, think the thread above refers to working with NPD to get it right.

Thanks for that update…Funny, I looked all over NPDs site and couldn’t find it! Sigh…Now I wonder if the can I found at NAPA isn’t in fact a better version (I’m 99% sure I have the Ford Thompson) Hmm…15.00 test I guess

Remember that the color has faded. The match I had done was to a area that was under the tag & housing nut. The body was really washed out in color. The Boss & CJ sites listed this color many years back …

I got mine from NPD. I found it to be an excellent match to what was on my pump to begin with.

My understanding is that the Teal paint was like the slop gray - a “batch paint” made up of waste paint (of appropriate shades and metallics, of course), and the actual color will vary from pump to pump.

This is what I have in my notes, regarding what people have used for the “Teal”. Lots of variations out there to choose from, and everyone seems to prefer / match their pump to something different from the next guy. I hope this doesn’t cause too much confusion, but know that you have options and can pretty much go with anything that falls in the “teal” range

NPD Lists metallic teal aerosol for PS pumps, P/N AP-PSPE.
Jeff Speegle (Mar2015): The NPD formula last time I used it on a project I found acceptable and raised no concerns or comments from any judge. What you want if showing a car.

Rainbow Industries paint for Mustang Colors. I used their #48 Lacquer for the PS pump and I found it really close if not spot on. Rainbow Industries 909-882-6677.

PPG Delstar Chesapeake Blue DAR-12366 “is slightly metallic and a dark navy blue, It is certainly not like other pumps that I have seen.”

Dupont 4157, 202-94879, 181-94879
Acme Rogers 8941
Omni AU Brand code 12366, OEM code H, M30J1367, color name: Express Blue Poly

PPG DAR 3421 Dark Jadestone Poly
Deltron DAU 4086 Dark Saphire Poly Blue “is a bluish green color”
PPG DAU 4086 “paint mixed and i think it is way to blue and quite dark”

Duplicolor GM258 (this is a spray can)

PS Pump Dipstick Paint / Color Details: Power steering pump dipstick color?

I don’t think it is any kind of slop paint at all. The NOS pumps are a uniform color. It is a color that was used to differentiate Ford pumps from TRW pumps. The variations you see on restored cars are not representative of what happened at the factory when the cars were new. No one was worried about it clashing with the blue on the engine. Lots of things under the hood are whatever colors that they are. The restorer’s job is tio imitate what happened when the car was new. Some of us are better at it than others.

The paint is not listed in my 2017 NPD catalog supplier issues maybe.

That’s the stuff I have. Bought it two decades ago and it looks great.

And after all that, I have the TRW Lol.

Black it is…the more you know…

Looking very closely you can see the W (which signifies a TRW pump) here…

I Primered the tag to protect the back side of it, as the factory actually put it on with both the canister and the tag being bare metal, then painted with the tag in place. So an original setup would have a bit of bare metal and rust, most likely, behind the tag. I even primered the nuts for a little bit of extra protection…

Don’t forget !! The paint is 50+ years old and has faded a lot. This is why so many “options” exist. I stand by the correct color as PPG Dark Sapphire Poly Blue. As do many of the Boss & CJ people/sites.
