I was replacing all the tilt away steering vacuum hoses on my 69 Cougar while I had the lower dash out replacing heater core and numerous other things. I could not find the original style hose in stock anywhere so I substituted 7/32 vacuum-washer hose from Autozone. The 7/32 hose ID is almost the same as the original but there is a significant difference in OD. Just wondered if the 7/32 hose would keep the tilt away from working? If so does anyone know where to get the original style hoses that will work?

My concern would be that thinner windshield washer hose will collapse under a vacuum pull, where the thicker original hose will not. By searching, I found this: EVIL ENERGY Vacuum Hose Tubing Line Silicone 130PSI Max Pressure – EVILENERGY
Thanks. The hose you link to is in Hong Kong, I wish I could find something state side. I guess I could use the headlight vacuum hose kit but gosh I don’t need all of it and its very very expensive. I am not a cheap but the hose kit is like over $400 plus tax.
I found it on Amazon. 50 foot for like $36. I just ordered it. THANKS!!! Amazon.com
Let us know how the hose, ends up working. ![]()
Okay I will update. I ordered the HPS 9/32(7mm) silicone hose as well from Amazon. The wall of the 9/32 hose is 3mm thick and total hose width is 13mm. I measured the width of the original tilt away hose and its 13mm wide as well. I should know how it works by the weekend.
What luck on the hose?

It worked perfectly and looks nice. Hose is very shiny out of the box so take 0000 steel wool and soak a little dish soap and water on the steel wool pad and cup the pad in your hand while pulling the hose through(two or three times) it will take the shine off and will look nice. I bought on Amazon and you will have enough for sure with 50ft.
