Just wondering why when your not logged in the current time on the board index page reads 11:22 but once your logged in it reads 18:22 ? Doesnt take much to confuse me especially in the morning before Ive had my first cup of coffee
Usually that’s because, until you log in, the board is showing its local time. Once you log in and it knows who you are, it shows you your local time. I’m not sure why there should be a 9-hour difference when you’re in Florida, though.
Thanks CatVert , I figured it was something explainable, but being an IT guy those little things strike me as hinky
One of the things we do to keep bots from spamming the board is to require that new sign ups set their time zone. Bots typically are not programmed to compare their location to the local time zone do they go with the default. We set the default to a time zone with no population,
What’s a bot?
At the bowling alley, a bot = buck off ticket
Get them for hanging the house, 6 X’s in a row etc…
Bots means automated processes, it comes from the word “robot” but it’s not accurate in that sense since these are just automated processes rather than robots with physical bodies. They’re essentially computer programs that do things, in this case they’re designed to find and sign up for every message forum they can find, and post spam messages to get non-savvy people to click the links they post, which are either links to virus/malware sites at worst or sites that generate revenue for them via advertising at best.
That makes sense.
Thanks
Zman , I like your definition better ! I hate that I even need to know about this stuff .
