Timing Question '73

Can anyone tell me what the timing for my car is supposed to be? It’s a 351C and all of the specs I read say to see the sticker under the hood but mine is missing.

If anyone can tell me the factory specs that would be great.

On a side note, the engine has been converted to a 4bbl but I am thinking I would like to have the factory timing specs as a starting point.

Bump…

Start at 8* and work from that. The crapulent fuels we have access to nowadays are really making it difficult to use factory timing specs on a Cleveland.

Thanks!

You’ll probably also want to tune that carb, since it’s not factory. The right jets and nozzles and wuzzles will make a dramatic difference, if it was just taken from the box and bolted on the intake. If you don’t know how, don’t be afraid to take it to a tuner shop. Totally worth the money.

I’ve seen a car pick up nearly a full second at the strip just dialing in the right parts for the fuel delivery. And driving it back was a real treat because it behaved properly then. Night and day, my man.

I agree! The best money I’ve spent on my restoration was the time at the dyno tuner. Went from a pinging dog to a reliable, fun car to drive on 93 octane with no whiz-bang fuel additives.
