Having no idea what is involved it torque boxes I figured ask the good folks here.
Do you patch a hole like this or replace the whole “box”? Looking at what a new box looks like, it seems very intense work to replace the whole thing.

That is the bottom, what does the back of it look like, and yes it is a PITA to replace.
rest of box looks to be solid.
Take a hard wheel to it and cut out the bad spot. That will give you a good look inside the box. If the rest of the box is good make a patch for the hole and your done. If you find lots of rust inside then you need to look at replacing the whole box. If you have good cutting/grinding & welding skills it’s not to bad but time consuming. The job is a lot easier if you have a car lift.
