Can someone look up the torque specs for the rod bolts for a 70 scj with lemans rods? I can’t find my volume 1 manual. My motor manual says 53-58 lbs but doesn’t specify if it’s different for the lemans rods. Thanks in advance.. Jon
I’m waiting for others who know more than I do, but in my experance you should have threads protruding above the top of the nut.
70 Shop Manual says connecting rod nuts are 40-45 ft lbs for the SCJ 429 and 85-90 ft-lbs for the Boss 429. But I guess it was the 428 that used Lemans rods, and that spec is listed at 53-58 ft lbs. Like Badcatt, I am used to seeing two or three bolt threads extending beyond the nut as pictured. But I don’t have any experience with Lemans rods.
I think those are the bolt head hollows, not nuts with shallow thread engagement.

The failure to see some ‘protruding’ threads from the cap bolts is probably more a function of the large square profile flange on the nut:
This shouldn’t change the ability of the nut to ‘hold’ the onto the bolt ( it might even enhance it ), but it will certain require the specific torque spec to be known and applied.
