Trip Odometer repair

Hi

I have a '69 Cat and the trip odometer doesn’t want to reset completely. The 2nd tumbler from the left goes to 9. Is there a way to repair this?

Thanks

Jack

I have to push the button on mine several times before it resets everything to zero and sometimes it refuses to do so. I’ll be watching this thread with great interest so thanks for posting the question.

I took mine to Redline Gauge Works and they repaired it.

Thank you, do I have to send the entire speedo or is the trip OD removeable?

Mine used to be hard to reset. I found it was easier if the car was moving, rather than at a stand still.

Probably should send the whole speedo.

When I repair/reface them I prefer that the trip odometer be out of the speedo. It’s really no big deal either way.

Thank you, I will wait until Fall when the cruises are done to pull the dash. Not one of my favorite jobs, I’m always afraid I will snap the plastic tab off the speedo cable. {50 year old plastic}

Here is an update on my trip odometer. I sent my instrument panel to Redline and they told me it would be no problem to repair. I also wanted the redline on the speedo redone since it was sun faded. Redline told me they would have to send the speedo to an artist in Colorado where he would make up a template. Then the actual painting would be done by Redline. A little pricey but the next guy that gets it done would be allot cheaper since Redline would keep the template on file. Thank you for referring me to Redline, great bunch of guys. I hope to have the cluster back by mid January. By the way I had my clock refitted with a quartz movement by Rocketman since the dash was out. I’m hoping this is the last time I have to pull it.

Okay final update. The cluster and clock are back. Since the cluster was out I ordered new lenses from Johns Classic Cougars and installed them myself. I first installed the clock then the instrument cluster. A little hassle trying to plug the wire harness since you can only feel your way around. I tested the speedo by pulling the cable out from the tranny and connecting it to my drill. Then checked the electrical and started the engine to make sure the tach worked. Everything checked out I’m ready for Spring

Nice to see that you had a good experience. Good guys. It’s amazing what the Redline guys do out of the facility they are in (a former residence).

Bob, which commented earlier in the feed or Phil Severence is your best choice. Redline failed to replace the contacts in my Shelby’s clock. It worked about a month before I had to start snapping the stem to get it to run. Both gentlemen do GREAT work. What ever you do, DO NOT SEND ANYTHING to The Tachman!!!

I’m checking to see how well the odometer repair went with Redline? I didn’t know if there were any other recommendations for odometer repairs.

My odometer wasn’t resetting, so as I’m pulling my dash apart next month for the tach / ammeter conversion, I may as well repair the odometer as well.

I haven’t had any issues with my trip odometer since the repair was done.
