Trunk Release

Wondering if there ever was an electric trunk release for Cougars? Does anyone know if Cougars came with some from factory, or if any out there from other cars that might fit? Hoping to find something that would work like factory…thanx…

If you are going to install a remote trunk you will need the Thunderbird or Lincoln latch with the remote release tab. The lock is the same and should install with no problems.

Adding to what Steven said, that is what I run on Isabel, works great. Only two of the three bolt holes in the trunk lid are present/used on the electric latch.

Awesome…thank you! Is there any year in particular to look for?

80’s? Bought mine from feebay…

Scott Drake makes and electric one that looks like the pre 69 cable version.

I believe I bought my NOS opener from Deerborn Classics about 10 years ago. I have the instruction sheet but there’s no part number for the kit on it. The box was falling apart when I got it, so that is no help.

Ford made at least 3 different versions of the electric trunk latch over the years. 2 and 3 bolt attaching, different plugs etc.

See the 4th response for the pictures.

Thanks for all the info…and pictures…I found one on Ebay that also shows a picture of my latch that it’s replacing, to ensure it will fit. Will see when I receive it…thanks again!

I have and use the top right one. Sometimes it doesn’t like to open, I believe I need to add a trunk lid to body ground strap to solve this occasional issue.

If you want to be different and do a lot of work, you could install on of the vacuum ones from the earlier Thunderbirds or Lincoln and big Merc’s. I think WCCC still has one, but you’ll have to ask, it is not on the listings.

LOL! I am and I did, but umm, no.

Too funny. Come on Bob you’ve got the skills for doing a vacuum release. I agree with you it would be a no for me as well. To much of a headache :wall:

What a guy does in the privacy of his own bedroom is his own business…

Wait.

Did I just write that?

Errr, umm, nevermind… :buck:

Another tip: the typical FoMoCo electric release won’t fit '67 and early '68 trunk lids without some cutting, nor will the factory accessory (C9AZ) original trunk release. I learned the hard way!
