Trunk torsion bar bind - How to make quick tool!

I know there are plenty of instructions out there on how to create the L- Shape torsion bar tool out of steel bar, but I wanted to share my experience as I had to overcome some additional obstacles…laziness, unavailable inventory and time.

Laziness- I didn’t want to remove my speakers and package tray to install the torsion bars.

Unavailable Inventory- So I looked at WCCC and they were out of stock on their new version of the torsion tool spring (with 3/8 drive adapter) .

Time- The L-shape tool would not work for me since it would hit the speaker. I wanted to knock this out the following day so I hoped on Amazon to see what tool I could potentially makeshift.

After some searching I found this Wrench Extender Tool Bar for 13 bucks…https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DBZK8WR2

Luckily, it shipped next day and I received it today. The bar is thick and sturdy and was what I needed. Only difference was it utilizes a 1/2 drive adapter, not a problem. After a few cuts with a grinder, drilling 2x 5/16 holes and cleaning up the edges, the tool was ready. I also wrapped some vinyl tape around it to keep it from scuffing paint. Took me less than 20 minutes all together.

Bonus…you can still use the other cut part of the tool for extra leverage on a wrench!

Anyways, just wanted to put this out there in case it helps someone with their project. Cheers!

I made one of those a couple of weeks ago to replace one of my rods and to adjust the other. It took a whole 10 minutes and made it out of an aluminum channel and wrapped tape around the bottom part of the “handle”. Worked just peachy.

Ah smart! I’m imagining something like a unistrut

I modified a valve spring compressor for mine, will have to find it and snap a photo.
