My 67 sits out in the AZ sun(for now) it has some awful house carpet under the door panels (cards)
It gets a slimy film in a day or two on all the windows. My other cars don’t.
I assume its due to the indoor/outdoor carpet. Before I tear into it can anyone guess why the carpet is there and what I’ll have to deal with after I remove the carpet? Rattle? Wind noise?
I am a clean window type. Ideas? TIA
That’s a new one on me. Let us know what you find. Cave Creek AZ here
That film on the windows is usually caused by plasticizer migration from the dash and interior plastic components. My Dad had a 70 AMC Rebel with a smelly plastic interior that fogged the windows like that, but I have never noticed it so much on our Cougars over the years.
In any case, you sure don’t need carpet under the door panels. I’d get it out of there and replace it with the factory style moisture barriers. They are designed to repel water. Carpet would get wet and moldy I would think.
Besides the crappy carpet. LOL. I think it has a A/M dash cover. (sun is brutile here) I might tackle the carpet removal as the rainy season is near. Course it dries quickly being Tucson. I’ll post results!
The aftermarket dash cover in the Arizona sun is probably what is outgassing and fogging your windows. Of course, while you have the door panels off, it’s a good opportunity to clean and lube the window mechanisms. And you’ll need this stuff to stick the moisture barriers to the inside of the door:

turns out the house carpet was a very small strip (at least on the pass side) probably a homemade window felt. Now I feel the need to redo the backer boards etc. Pics when I figure that out (again LOL)
