The turn signal cam in my 69 XR7 convertible wasn’t working. I’d have to hold the lever in place. After watchin the WCCC video I figured I’d give the replacement cam a try. It’s a ton easier in a tilt wheel car because the cam is held in with a screw. Non tilt cars have a little rectangular clip that is attached like a rivet to the cylinder that the stalk screws into. The clip is easy enough to remove but there isn’t a way to press the clip that comes with the cam kit onto the rivet like protrusion on the cylinder. Here’s what I did to make the kit work.
I removed the cylinder and drilled and tapped it with a small tap. I used a metric 4-40 tap only because I didn’t have to hunt around for the correct drill and it looked like the right size. A small screw about 7/16" long was used to hold everything together. For a washer I used one of the push clips that came with the cam kit because I figured it would work like a spring loaded lock washer. Note that the clip doesn’t touch the brass terminals underneath it.
