Turn Signal Switch malfunction

I recently bought an aftermarket Turn Signal Switch for my 69 XR7 with tilt column. I also bougth upgrade kit from West Coast Classic Cougars which includes the 8 led lamps, two relays and the solid state taillight sequential unit. It worked fine except for the emergency warning signal. I repaired the bad contact but it nly flashes the passanger taillights. Also the turn signals, both driver side and passanger side are not flashing. The fuse is and I will check every wire. Problem is, I don´t know the function of each wire. Is there a schematic showing the function of each colored wire. Tks

WCCC has the factory wiring diagrams available to download.

Tks a lot

Tkanks, it realy helped me a lot.

Hi HemiKiller,

the wiring diagrams helped a lot. My sequencial turn signals work except for the rear driver side. I suspect the canceling cam has a bad contact. Do you know the functions of the contacts on the Cam?
Tks

This provides all the color coding for the turn signal switches. Hopefully this is what you require to trouble shoot and solve your problems.

I’ve had issues with the repop switch in my 71. The cam has wire contacts on the bottom and they sometimes lose contact with the rest of the switch. I have a couple OE Ford switches I plan to swap in. Not sure if that helps in your situation, but I’ve had people tell me one or the other side of my brake lights is out.

My Turn Signal Switch has bad so I bought a new one made in USA. Now everything works fine except for the emergency lights. The front RH won´t flash. The bulb is okay. Also the courtesy lights on the both doors flash along. While testing, my brand new batery discharged totaly. Any ideas where I can start?
Appreciate your help

Are your getting voltage at the bulb? You can’t fix electronics by looking at them. What year is your Cougar? Different years ground the turn signals different ways.

are you saying that the courtesy lights are flashing with the tun signals?

Weird isn´t it.. When I put back the dash board I accidentally pinched a wire. Now it´s ok

Yes. The bulbs are working. Both circuits ( position and turn signal ) execpt for the the emergency light on the passanger side. The inner light on the dashbord doesn´t blink either.

1969 XR7. Only the rh from parking ligth is no blinking when the hazard button is pressed. I got voltage at the bulb. work both circuits, parking and turn signal

I ´ve just studied the diagram. The white and red wire controls the hazard lights, so I have to check

its path till it connects to the parking front passenger light.

I’m on my second turn signal switch in less than a year and with both of them I have not had any emergency flashers. Not sure what the issue is.

Sorry about that. The one I bought is meant to work with LED bulbs. I just need to know how to test the emergency circuit ( the turn signals work fine) with a multimeter. Does anyone have Cougar Unlimited e-mail;?

Just for your information. According to the Cougar’s Unlimited Troubleshooting guide, many cars have the emergencyflasher socket pins wired backwards..This can cause emergency lights malfunction. I’l try that and will let you know the result

I have the pleasure to inform my emergency lights are finally working. I updated the system .to LED including the sequential flasher, Turn signal switch and the flasher. I really hope this can help.Time to celebrate!!!

That’s great news Tony. Did you end up changing the pins on the emergency switch? I too have all the LED upgrades ( sequencer from Cougars Unlimited C9WY-13A366-AL-A406, both flasher cans are LED, lights are all LED, new turn signal switch, and I don’t have emergency flashers. All turn signals and lights work perfectly fine, just no emergency flashers.
