Tidying up the wiring of the 70 XR7 convertible.
I’ve looked at the pics of the underhood light pictures on WCCC but can’t find details where the clips and wiring is positioned in the engine bay.
Does anyone have a picture or diagram of where all the bits are located they can post?
Thanks
Hi Leon. I don’t have any of that left on my car either but The Osborne electrical manual probably has a diagram, can look tonight if useful?
Steve
That would be great. I’ve checked every manual I have but couldn’t find a diagram
From my original 70 wireing diagram set

Close up, really not a lot of help IMHO.

As I recall the wire runs along the shock tower brace to the fire wall and then in to the hood structure. Ginger’s hood light wiring was cut before i got her and is missing the length from the in line fuse holder to just about the hood.
Thanks Neal
Were any of the clips still in place? I’m trying to work out where the single wire was held in place.
Mine is also missing the pig tail from the starter solenoid to the fuse holder. I guess most people threw them away after the light stayed on and flattened the battery

I think the white wiring clip dangling above the vacuum vale is probably for the light wire
Does the light wire feed through the holes in the ends of the clip or is it taped on?
I think that clip is for the wiper harness. If the wire for the light has one it will clip to the shock tower brace on the passengers side.

The wire has the clip on it. Looks like it is near where it exits the hood
Not sure where the round black doohicky goes
Neal is correct. In the photo, the clip above the vacuum valve is for the wiper wiring harness. The round black doohicky goes in the understructure of the hood and acts as an anti-chafing device for the wire.
I’m not sure if he is asking about the two grommets the fit the holes in the underside of the hood or the funny looking round wire holder(on the left). I don’t recall seeing one like that on this harness before.
I meant the funny looking round wire holder doohickey
Oh, I see. I believe the funny looking one goes through the shock tower brace from the bottom and the wire goes through the round part.

See if the photo insert works. Have same useless diagram as Neal but hopefully photo above helps with grommet/clip locations (can even see where the light used to be!).
Steve
Thanks Steve.
From the location of the clips it looks like it runs across the base of the hood before dropping down
Agree, nothing else those clips could be used for. Second clip would put it roughly above brace as well for the run to the solenoid?
Although looking at it would almost put the clip/wire where the seal to the scuttle would seat. Does the vert have a whole for the clip in the same spot
Edit. Can see that is nowhere near rear edge wheee seal seats now so ignore previous comment.
Steve

I’ve run it across using clips. The centre hole is normally for the under hood insulation clip. I guess they used it on ram air cars because they didn’t have insulation
Need to redo that crap paint caused when the engine backfired
Looks great Leon. I love getting the little details back to original. Might be time for another order from WCCC…
Can relate about the underhood paint, I have the ‘patina’ from what appears to be a battery explosion
