Does anybody make an upper cowl panel for 67-68? I know you can order a lower but I figured I would see before I started riddling the one I have full of holes
No, used only…
Well I guess I better drill carefully then.
]Well All thats left is attaching the upper cowl back on. I left the center section of the lower to ensure exact fitment based on drilled spot welds.
The left side cowl patch was the biggest pain, because you had to re-shape the inner side to match back up to the existing lower cowl.
So far one side of the floor has been replaced
Side cowl panels were patched in because of rusted lips.
Lower cowl panels
firewall lip patches
I didnt get too crazy with blending the welds, because nobody is going to see them. All welded seams were sprayed with weld through primer.
I finished the lower cowl off by cleaning, sanding and two coats of por 15 I had left over.
Nice work man! Not envious of that job one bit!
and I thought I had mine apart…some serious restoration going on there…
I feel like the hardest part is welding the top hat back on. That dang galvanized metal just makes life difficult even with sanding some of the surface around the plug weld holes to clean metal. Progress is looking good.
OMG, yes!!
What a nightmare it was getting that back on. I actually brazed the horizontal welds along the top to fill in any imperfections after I plug welded.
And then trying to grind welds along the lower lip with the flange in the way. I used a couple of flap disks sideways, which seem to work best. I left a few alone under the fender apron since you won’t see them.
Spend most of the day finessing this thing back on.
Lol I’m glad it’s just not me then! I’ve only got one half of mine welded back on and putting off welding the rest. I’m dreading the amount of grinding ill have to do. I’m thinking to knock off the bulk of the weld quickly I’ll use a cutting wheel then finish them off with a series of die grinders. If anyone else has recommendations for must have tools for this tight body work I’m all ears. Been thinking about getting one of the Eastwood mini belt sanders also for this work.
