Using WD40 to remove paint from scraping up against somethin

Before, thanks to poor navigation into a too-small garage door frame:

4 or 5 months later, after using a cotton cloth soaked with WD40 and elbow grease (and thumbnail-through-cotton):

It’s definitely not perfect but it’s a hell of a lot better than it was, I think.

Thanks much to the ECI for telling me to give this a shot. Very happy with the results.

Do you think you would be able to take off the last bit or is that through the paint?

My pleasure! :beerchug:

I don’t know if that last bit can be removed, I think it might be damage do the existing paint/coat that created a bit of a scratch. I rubbed the hell out of it until my arm was shot, and that last bit really didn’t wanna come off. For what it’s worth, it stands out a lot more in that flash photo than it does when you actually look at it in person.

WD-40 also works great for removing tar.

That looks way more better! Good job, good tip!

How would you say it compare to rubbing compound? More / less abrasive?

If I may, I would say WD has got to be head and shoulders better than compound in the abrasive department in that it is not abrasive at all, it is oil “and junk”.

Junk?!?! You tricked me into rubbin my car up with junk?!? Why I oughta!!!
