Hi, can someone please let me know where the forward intake vacuum fitting goes to? It’s for a 1970 351c 2v XR7. I used the small fitting on the rear intake tee for the vaccum advance. Maybe i did this wrong. Please see pictures
Front port manifold vacuum tees and goes to 1. Distributor vacuum retard (closest port to distributor on dual advance unit) and 2. Bottom port of thermal switch on water pump.
Back port large hose goes to firewall vacuum tree, and small hose goes to thermal switch in base of air cleaner that opens and closes the air cleaner snorkel damper.
Craig,
Thank you. I’m not seeing a thermal switch on the pump. Is it common not to have it?

A lot of them have been deleted as people don’t understand how they work. Guys tend to remove them thinking it is part of the emissions, but it is more to prevent engine overheating in hot conditions. (Not to be confused with the retard dual vacuum advance unit fitted to some vehicles).
There should be one on a Cleveland.

All you really need for the engine to run right is ported vacuum from base of carb to distributor vacuum advance. Like Peter says, the water pump thermal switch was there simply to advance timing and increase idle speed when engine overheats. And the vacuum retard side of the dual advance distributor (the side that connects to manifold vacuum) was there to retard timing at idle for more complete fuel burn. It was only there to meet emissions standards.
Thank you for your responses. Great help.
