Vacuum Release Valve Solenoid

Howdy!
I’m working on a very nice 67 that has some minor issues. It came to my shop with a rebuilt column from WCCC, but nothing was hooked up to get the tilt-away functioning. I’m tracing wires, replacing door switches, and troubleshooting components as I go. In regards to the vacuum release valve solenoid, I have confirmed that the windings are in good order and the plunger moves when energized. However, I cannot pull a vacuum on the lower port. Is there an engineered vacuum leak at that port or should it be sealed when the plunger is forward? The plunger does seal off the other port well and allows air to move when the solenoid is energized.

I got it figured out. That lower port supplies vacuum to the vacuum motor when the solenoid is activated. The port coming straight out is the supply side. I hooked up the lines properly, used a supplemental vacuum canister with a check valve, and it still would not activate the tilt-away. I pulled the vacuum motor apart to clean and grease by Don’s recommendations, and still nothing. I confirmed that I had 18" vacuum on the column side of the solenoid, so I hooked the rubber line directly to the motor. It pulled hard! remounted everything and hooked it up properly, nothing again. Turns out that the steel elbow just before the vacuum motor had rusted on the inside and blocked the line off. Cleared it out, hooked it up, and got perfect actuation 10 times before I ran out of vacuum volume! Thanks to everyone who has ever posted on here for the wealth of knowledge. Now on to fixing the A/C!

Welcome to the forum, sorry you had no response from people here but the tilt column can be somewhat challenging.
Glad you got it working
