Vacuum Solenoid Valve

Quick question:
We’re still trying to track down the problem with the headlights and when we move the OVERIDE BUTTON the headlights go up. When we move it back… they go down.

But the unit still doesn’t work. So we checked electrical and it’s getting the power.

Assuming something is broken… I was wondering if we could replace it with the motorized unit for the 68 even though we have the 67 unit.

We have this one:

Can we exchange it for this?

To replace your 67 system with a 68 system you will need to purchase a 68 headlight switch and a 68 vacuum hose set. You will remove the 67 style headlight solenoid, the 67 headlight switch and the all the vacuum hoses to the headlight vacuum motors. You will then need to cut a hole in the firewall for the hoses to pass through to connect to the 68 headlight switch. One other thing to look for would be the valve in the system. The earlier 67s have 2 vacuum ports on the headlight vacuum reserve tank located in the left front fender well. You will see the hose fittings with the hood open and by looking behind the headlight to the front flange of the fender. If you have 2 ports on the tank the valve is in the tank. If you have one port then the valve will be located at the rear of the intake manifold close to where vacuum system comes off the intake. That valve will be one port in and 2 ports out.

The earlier 67s have 2 vacuum ports

Randy, So how do I make it work? Can I cap one of the ports on the 67 tank or do I need a splitter to connect to the single 68 hose/switch? Thanks.

How’s the weather in Carlisle?

I would replace the 2 port reserve tank with a single port one. That way all the 68 hoses will be plug and play. That would include placing the valve at the rear of the intake.

I was only in Carlisle on Wednesday. It was a little chilly and windy but got better in the afternoon. Thursday around here was off and on light showers. Today, Friday, was decent. A little on the cool side and a bit windy. Not too bad overall though. Tomorrow is suppose to be decent too.

Thanks!
We’re going to try something different. Will let you all know if it works.

It’s not perfect. But Logan and I just got the headlights to go up by replacing the old vacuum solenoid valve with a $17 one from summit racing (made for a Chevy wiper actuator). We still need to figure out how to get the lids to come down (a second vacuum solenoid valve?) but feeling pretty accomplished right now
