Recently under maintenance and restoration- 1/2 full fuel reading someone had the same problem.
Never had this problem, but years ago, for some reason, now forgotten, I drilled a small hole in the vented tank cap just to insure it was really vented.
Drill a hole for installation of a 1/8" roll pin especially if you’ve bought a new gas cap recently. The new ones don’t vent as well as the old ones.
I wouldn’t think you could find a cap that vents both ways since we can’t even have a gas can with a vent.
Original gas caps only vent into the tank. Sounds like the reproductions work perfectly Don.

Had the same thing happen on my '70 Bronco, which had an aftermarket cap. Nothing I coudn’t fix in thirty seconds with a drill bit.
