Interesting, but it is a pretty common H code, strange color combination, and minimal options. The pictures show the car is somewhat of a mess. Why does the car have 1970 rear marker lights? And a 1968 steering wheel? Missing the rocker trim, and wheel well trim. Strange cougar script slope on the passenger side, spring antenna (I hate those!). And the engine photos show the car is missing the fuel line, LOL!
Even though it is VIN #1, I really don’t see that adding much of a premium in this case. I would guess less than $20K best case. Thoughts?
I hope the car has been finished by the time the auction takes place. It obviously was kind of thrown together and not complete, at least for the auction photos.
Does this San Jose #1 car show any evidence of the extra finishing that was done on early show cars? The filled door seams, etc? The Marti indicates it was just ordered for dealer stock, so doesn’t seem like it would get that treatment.
Mecum rule - the Mecum auctioneer - shill bidders in the room - can raise the bid to the owner’s reserve. If no “real” bid happens after that the
reserve is not met.
The auction was less than two minutes and got up to 50K very fast, then the auction was over. They were milking every other auction when they slowed down, but not this one. Not that I thought that the real value was anywhere near half that $50,000.
