Has anyone had any experience with Vintage Air system on a Cougar? I have removed all of the heating and air conditioning out of my 67 XR7. The blend box and tubing is a stinky mouse house disaster! I am already missing most of the under hood air conditioning parts so it seems as though an aftermarket system might be the way to go. Any thoughts?
I plan to do the same so interested in all the results. I would want to use the factory air vents however and not the generic vintage air ones. My car was not originally an ac car so I need to add them. I know you can buy the repro side dash vents but the center vent is what I am most curious about.
It depends on which system you go with. They make a “sure-fit” kit which is based on a Mustang that likely came with factory air. They also make universal systems. When I installed mine in 2002, I could only get the universal Generation II set-up. It came in three sizes: mini, compact and the full -sized super cooler. The VA tech guy recommended the full super cooler based on the amount of glass area Cougars have.
Having gone through the installation, and know how well these systems perform, I could have gotten away with the compact. It would have been easier to install because of its size and I feel it would have cooled adequately.
I also plumbed the defrost and AC through the factory vents.
I wrote this back then but much of it still holds true:
The center vent is different between a standard Cougar and an XR-7 so be sure to get the correct one. That is of course assuming that you are using the original dash face.
Yeah I was aware of the standard vs xr7. I would need the dace face too since I’m a non ac car. Wouldn’t mind the xr7 dash face parts to convert to a full set of auto meter gauges since it seems easier to find then a standard ac dash face. I know classic dash makes a xr7 style kit for aftermarket gauges and ac provisions but not sold on the layout or overall fit and finish
