Vintage Cougar Photos as Detroit Digital Library

I just found this cool collection of rare Cougar promotional photos in the collection of the Detroit Digital Library.

Go check it out when you get a chance.

Here are a few more.

The pic of the '70 is kinda creepy…

Loves me some '69 R-code! Red on Red? Yeah, like a red velvet cake!

Those are some awesome pictures. Thanks for sharing the link Philip.

Holly Sweet Mother load of Pic’s Batman! Thanks for finding and sharing this.

There is that great looking fiberglass hood! Mercury should have ‘spend the money’ and had AO Smith put them on the Gs.
Picture na038619.

Do you mean the XR7S ClawIt?

Notice the license plate says “Dan Gurney”.

It doesn’t appear the Detroit Digital Library has any vintage XR7-G photos though.

Thanks for sharing Phillip!

Thanks Phillip, I couldn’t get the picture to attach.

Yes, for some reason this site wouldn’t accept those photos of the XR7S as an attachment.

So I adjusted and cropped that one and it worked.

Here is a '69 'vert for Chris :beerchug:

I edited this some and color corrected it.

Awesome pics. thanks for posting

I also like the red/red R code - I have that car on a vintage ad titled “Lincoln-Mercury’s Zip code: CJ428”

Digging the lack of antennae on most of these pics.

Holy smokes! These are amazing! What a great collection they have. Also did a search for Mustang and found all kinds of cool stuff. Am going on a downloading spree to save some of these. Thank you for sharing the link Phillip!

Phillip, I’ll ad my thanks to the chorus. Wonderful stuff!

Would be great to get a hold of those original transparencies and re-work the colors back to the original tones.

Nice work on the 69’s, propayne!

I experimented with that a little. It’s doable, here’s one I adjusted & cropped:

Of course it’s hard to know for sure what the exact color temperature was originally but it’s possible to bring it closer to reality.

Great work Andrew!

Could you work a little of your photo magic on the GT-E car on page 1? The photo number is: na036212

I don’t recall a purple color. Could that have been Burgundy?

Andrew good job on the photo. I like it.

Way ahead of you! That’s one of the coolest pics in the collection. This one was a bit faded so I ended up masking out and enhancing the red of the car a bit. Not sure how realistic it is, but here ya go.

Probably! I imagine it was more like Black Cherry.
