Looking for something for my 79 Cougar half roof. I was once recommended a product that almost destroyed a vinyl roof, so this has to be gentle. I have the roof clean, just looking for something to restore the shine and luster? and protect. Thanks.
I like this stuff:

Armor All vinyl top dressing has worked well for me for 50+ years.
Aerospace 303 - no silicone; sensor safe. Developed for the F-16 plexiglass canopy. UV resistant. All I use anymore.
…
Original Armor All on my first 70 dash ruined it. Sun heating caused it to cook the dash top. Looked like burned pizza after a hot summer. The vinyl top dressing must be different stuff.
Internet claims of Armor All ruining stuff are just crap. The stuff is fifty plus years old. It gets crappy with age. Armor All contains exactly the same stuff as you use.
Yes, original Armor All. Light coat for me works best. Ran to the grocery with my Cougar this fall and when I came out a couple was waiting by my car and wanted to know who put on my new vinyl top. I laughed and said I had that done in 1985.
I have first-hand experience with a brand new bottle of Armor All ruining my 70 dash pad back in 1980. The dash pad was only 10 yrs old at the time and in great condition until exposure to the hot summer sun after coating it with Armor All. It was pretty dramatic damage, and I’ll never use the stuff on interiors again. But I’m glad to know it has worked well on vinyl tops. They have probably changed the formulation after 45 years, and I agree it probably isn’t much different than the Meguiars stuff I use now.
I had an auto detailing business back in those days, and used a professional petroleum based product from Auto Magic called Top Coat on vinyl tops. My customers loved it because it didn’t collect dust or wash down onto the paint. But I don’t see any for sale anymore.
