I’m restoring lower control arms on my 70 and am having a hard time finding a tool, die, stamp, bit or whatever it is that is used to recreate the “waffle” pattern on the ball joint rivots. I’ve searched online for something that would work but come up dry. Does anybody know know where I can get one of these press dies or whatever it is? I know the rivots are smashed with a press, I just can’t find anything to make the pattern. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
Got mine from Big Flats rivet company. The waffle die is listed for “Model A Ford” body rivets. I had to make adapters for my hydraulic press on my lathe.
Don’t know of anyone that is selling any of the dies that create the pattern. Then often enough the guys doing these don’t compress the rivet like the factory did producing some odd shaped final products.
There are a number of shops that will do them for you but its not cheap. I use to use Rare Parts since they are local and produce the reproduction A arms but they are not longer providing that service. They have or at least had 12 different patterns of the waffle pattern
