Want to know how a Torque Converter works?

I finally understand that mysterious chunk of metal and it’s actually pretty interesting and cool how engineers can think up this kind of stuff.
This guy did pretty good at breaking it all down.

Ok, that was pretty cool!

This video brought to you by ahunt191, physics nut extraordinaire! (just :poke: at you, Adam!)

My question, how does a TC go “out”?? Had a '92 Probe I had to have one replaced on, and never understood the why/how it broke?

Hey, I had nothing to do with it. I wish I could take credit. That guy did a pretty good job. I wonder if he had to make that youtube video for class. I wish he had gone into the torque multiplication effect a little more.

I had to have my B&M Holeshot 2400 rebuilt two weeks after it was installed because the stator was rubbing on the turbine, which created lots of metal shavings.

This video explains it even better and goes more in depth. It’s the best video I’ve seen describing it and its from 1953!!!

can all torque converters be rebuilt or is it better to just replace and old one?

Maybe with a high dollar racing converter but if your just wanting to replace a stock converter it would probably be cheaper to just get a new one. And if it is cheaper to have it rebuilt more than likely it wouldn’t be too much cheaper. Not 100% sure though.
