Yup, I’m looking for 5 of these babies without tires. 14x6. expecting to take a while for me to find them….
I see them pop up on eBay pretty frequently. You may have to buy one at a time until you have a set but they are out there.
The 68 pdb version is harder to find
The 68 style steel wheels all clear power disc brakes. They differ from the 1967 style steel wheels by having a larger hole.
All respect, but this is the exact story that came with my set of 68 SSWs and OEM pdb kit, bought around 1990. I have never attempted to validate nor invalidate. I leave it to the seller to clarify, who is also present on this forum.
No, I think you are mistaken. All 1968 Styled Steel wheels will work with disk brakes.
To clarify, the 67 version have larger holes. They discovered that the wheels could fail due to this, so 68 wheels were manufactured with slightly smaller openings.
That’s it.
Evidence from the LM MPC would clarify. With and without caliper clearance groove.
No need for that. All of the 1968 and later versions clear 1968 and later discs. The earlier version will only clear 1967 four piston calipers.
Hi, my name is Tara. I just saw your post. My brother Ted has a set of 68 wheels for sale, recently hot-tanked, ready for paint. The chrome is perfect, I took photos of one wheel, however he should have cleaned/buffed the chrome. He is located in West Kelowna, BC. Please give him a call or text 778-214-4462.
What is market value for 5 rims/beauty rings/center hubs with Mercury Head?
I may have access to this set of 5.
From the LM MPC:
C8WY-1007-A Disc Brakes
C8WY-1007-C Drum Brakes, r/b by C8WY-1007-A
I’ve had both kinds. One pair, from a drum brake car had no groove for caliper clearance.
Never had any that would not fit disc brakes.
Either way, I need a set to for a 68 w/calipers. I will email you directly.
Hello manyc, I have a set of 5 wheels, 4 Trim Rings and 6 NOS Mercury Head Center Caps. These wheels were on a 69 Cougar with Disc Brakes, many years ago. They are from PA so there is rust and have not been reconditioned.
I can’t use the center caps as they are going on an XR7G, but what do you want for the wheels and trim rings? I will pay a fair price for sure.
I am hoping you will also be willing to ship them to Vermont.
-Chris
I am thinking that shipping them individually would still be cheaper than me driving to get them. So I think anywhere up to $50 per wheel just for shipping is would be ok.
manyc,
Just a thought for you. If rweast is in PA perhaps he will be attending the Carlisle Ford show. If he is perhaps he could bring the wheels to the show and one of the guys in the New England club would be willing to bring them back closer to you.

good thought. I could easily do a round trip to the Boston area in a day and would probably be doing that trip in June anyways.
