After removing this,
I found these,
On top of this,
Any clues as to what these bracket were for?
Did XR7’s come with rear speakers?
It does not look like my car ever had rear speakers.

Rear deck speakers were an option on all models.
Two of the brackets that caused the paint shadows can be found on the door pillars.
Ah HA! You were right! After your clue, I looked at my door, and the other brackets appear to be for the upper window travel stop. Being as my car already has these, I will assumed that these brackets were painted with the body, then covered up with the package tray, never to be seen until today. Very interesting to find. Also found to (2) rear window trim clips in a red primer color. Just thought this was interesting.
Thanks!
More info on that subject here:
Here’s mine; used this too prove the car was really originally Comp Orange. There were 5 coats of different colors painted over the original paint.
Very cool! Had no idea.
The brackets on my car are natural. Just guessing, but once the painted brackets were covered, the door guy probably just grabbed unpainted brackets to finish the door.
IDK, just my theory.
I was thinking the same thing. Could be the natural ones (actually silver painted) got installed on cars when the body color painted ones got lost or covered up prior to install. Your car is a good example of that happening. Maybe there was a new window bracket installer in 1970 that nobody told where to look for the body painted ones? And then QA took a long time to flag it.
My car had an unbelievable pile of hardware buried under the rear carpet and sound deadener - including a bulky door hinge backing plate. They were really pretty sloppy on the assembly line back in those days.
