What carburetor was original on 1970 428 CJ?

What were the specs on the original carburetor for a 1970 428 CJ Cougar? When I owned the car originally I put a Holley 1050 CFM 3-barrel on it but I think it may have been a bit too large.

I believe they came with Holley 4150 carburetor rated at 735 cfm

Same as 1970 Mustang 428CJ. See all the information that you ever wanted to know, and more, here:

Great link for that carb.

Maybe a bit, but on a 428 car with headers, 4-speed and decent gears I can see it working pretty well. Besides, the old 3-barrels are cool.

OK, but the Eliminator did not come with headers and decent gears. When I bought the car at the dealership I already had the 3-barrel with me so I installed it before leaving the dealer’s lot. I’m asking about the carb that I removed back in 1970. What came on the car from the factory?

Refer back to #2 post, Holley 735 CFM

It would have been one of these 4 part numbers,
D0ZF-9510-AA with 4 speed
D0ZF-9510-AB with Automatic
D0ZF-9510-AC with 4 speed and AC
D0ZF-9510-AD with Automatic and AC

Click on the link for the AA or AB to get a little more specifics.

D0ZF-9510-AC with 4 speed and AC

I think you can skip this one. IIRC, there were no Cougars built in this combination - and very few Mustangs!

Thanks for the pointer! Yes, there it is! Thanks again!!!
