What makes this Cougar incredible?

Most likely because the don’t actually work.

Being as they did not have to stick with a script, surely somebody would be as peeved as me and would have installed these to straighten them up!

Duel carbs for sure

Here is a closeup of the engine -

Interesting that there is no export brace - at least at that point

Thanks for posting

It looks like the whole front radiator support has been ‘photo-shopped’ into the picture !

Bear in mind these were street legal cars that were built to sell the program to SCCA; as if Mercury was building cars with these options available. These photos are publicity shots. The cars looked completely different after Bud Moore and his guys got through modifying them for racing in the Trans American series.

For comparison here is a peak inside the engine bay of one of the Bud Moore Cougars after it had completed the 1967 Trans-Am season and was being campaigned in the NASCAR Grand American series probably around 1969.

Photo courtesy of Dennis Andrews, son of Wayne Andrews who drove one of the ex BME Cougars in Grand American after Reid Shaw had purchased it from Bud.

Did any of those dual carb intakes somehow make it on a production car?
