whats more desirable?

Looking for thoughts on what would add more value to my 70 Cougar!

An Original AM/ FM factory radio?

or

An Original Factory AM - 8 Track player ( BTW- I have a collection of 8 track! lol )

If they are in both working condition- WCCC seems to think they are equal in value.

Thanks

My vote (and I’ve struggled with keeping a '68 AM-FM radio going as built) is to get a correct-for-your-year AM-FM, and have it converted to modern digital-capable stuff internally. Joe’s, Tayman, and DM all offer conversions; you can get bluetooth as an option. I’ve resisted converting mine, but will do so in this off season.

R.B.

8 track! Great conversation starter at shows.

Personally I think the 8track is much cooler.

Thanks for the thoughts!

I have the OEM AM-8 track stereo radio in my R code car. I also have FM conversion and cassette stereo conversion units that plug into the 8 track player so I have the best of everything. I recommend the 8 track for that reason. You can buy the conversion units on eBay cheap.

Did the car happen to come with either? If not, I’d go with the 8-track. I agree that the 8-track would be a great conversation starter - especially if you have a large selection of tapes.

Thanks everyone. The 70 E Cat, originally came with a AM radio. Which I have. One of the items that the person I bought the car from, included an AM - 8-Track. Recently I have latched onto an AM/FM radio as well.

Royce, my 67 GT has an AM - 8 track and a rare (FM converter by Boman - Astrosonic) that fits into the 8-track slot and provides FM stations. It is portable, so I could be moved from Cat to Cat.

By 70 the AM/FM was getting to be pretty standard. The 8 track was a option, so it’s worth more. Especially since you have tapes. I still have some if you want them? Steppenwolf, yeah baby.

Chris,
I have the AM/8 track in my GT. Two reasons I like it: it fits well with the era and FM radio pretty much sucks nowadays anyway.

Sounds Like the AM 8-Track is the way to go in my situation.

Yes- no more KFog n Bay Area :frowning:(

I have lots of 70’s rock in 8 track tapes.

Here is some pictures of the Boman - 8 track - FM converter that resides in my 67

My exhaust renders any radio pointless. I might have to look into that.

Fun fact - Boman / Astrosonics was bought by Tandy Corporation in the 1980’s and became part of the Radio Shack / Realistic line of products. Eventually both the Boman and Astrosonics names were phased out but the Boman corporation was a leader in automotive electronics as was Radio Shack / Realistic.

That looks pretty cool! I tried an 8-track / Cassette adapter, but the belts were too old and replacing them did not improve things :-/
An 8-track / FM adapter seems like it would be pretty neat!

I had the am 8 track in my 67. Then went to the drive in and couldn’t hear the movie cause they broadcast in fm! Got a fm converter but I guess I got a cheap one or just an old one didn’t sound real good. Got my 71an decided to up grade to a 76 am/fm 8 track. Sounded pretty good till you put the top down, so I put in a 1500w amp with a remote CD player, and then went with a 78 quadrasonic 8 track! So I can play am/fm, 8 track, quad 8 track, cassette or CD. Gotta love it!
