What's the 67 Cougar with 289 "Original" Battery Tray Size?

The Battery Tray in my cat measures approximately 9 X 6 3/4. I’m sure it’s not original, it doesn’t have any original markings, and is in pretty good shape. Did 67 Cougars with a 289, no A/C come with batteries that small? Was the “Original” Battery Tray that small? What was the “Original” Battery Tray that came with 67 Cougars with a 289, no A/C? THANKS

The batteries in the 67 and 68 small block non A/C Cougars had the Group 22 battery and tray which is slightly smaller than the Group 24 battery and tray that came with the A/C small block cars and, I believe, the 390 CID Cougars. I am not certain, but I think the 428 CID Cougars had the Group 27 battery and tray.

I was afraid of that! Just bought that group 24 battery tray package. At least I can use the bolts. Think I’ll try to salvage my current tray, not in too bad shape, couple of pin holes. Thanks for your reply.

I have not seen any repro Group 22 battery trays, so you may be fine with the Group 24, unless you are doing a concourse restoration.

Well, I would like to keep everything as original as possible. I’m sure it’s not the “original” Battery Tray, I’ve seen an NOS on ebay that is simular. I think I’m gonna clean my Group 22 up, fix the pin holes, prime & paint. You can’t see most of it anyway! Would like to get my hands on some kind of “Hold Down” that fits the Group 22 battery. The Group 24 that came with the Battery kit is a little wide and the one that I have that fits the Group 22 battery is plastic and a little torn up where the bolts go. Anyway, THANKS

Actually, I noticed the width of my Group 22 tray is the same as the 24. Curious as to why the Hold Down bracket that came with my Group 24 Kit is so wide? Hangs over the battery about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch on each side…
