Looking to replace my Edelbrock carb with a Holley, any thoughts on what model 4 barl. I was thinking a 600cfm, I have a Weland 8010 manifold on my 69 351W, any ideas
Go with 600 CFM, vacuum secondary, electric choke. Hard to go wrong. Then be prepared to adjust it to your car.
Holley 80457s will work well for you.
The 600CFM 80457S has the fuel inlet on the Ford side, and if you want to save money, buy one direct from Holley from the “Factory Refurbished” section. I did, and love it. They’re said to be customer returns where the customer didn’t know what he was doing. There are a couple in stock right now the Holley site.
Mine was very close to right on as is. New or refurb, you can then have near-endless fun messing with secondary springs and jetting when you get bored.
Exactly what I did and it’s been perfect for me. Very minor tweaks once installed while watching the vacuum gauge.
I second the Holley reman option…only thing is…check it when you get it…previous two were pretty much dead on…but the last one had 62 mains and a 5.5 power…once I went to a more driving friendly tune everything was great
Thanks for the info, I removed the Edelbrock and found a Holley 8050, took a huge chance and found a real nice looking used one, came off a 69 Corvette, carb looked brand new, bolted it on, fired up the 351 and I was shocked how well it runs, smooth and even. so far only thing I adjusted is the idle, was a bit to high. Who knew you could buy a used carb and have it run this nice, whole new car. Car is faster, runs better with a 600cfm, so bigger is not always better.
