Well, it looks like the tire shop boogered up one of the wheel studs on the Wilwood disc brakes on my 67. Can you change the wheel studs on those things or am I going to have to order a new hub-rotor from Wilwood?
It took me over an hour to finally get the lug nut off last night, and then it was too late and too dark to investigate the damage.
Those work for the stock setup, but Wilwood sells a hub-rotor assembly in their brake kits with a different type of stud. It’s about $150 for a new assembly, so I’m hoping I can just source and replace the lugs independently – especially since there’s probably less than 50 miles on these rotors.
Official reply from Wilwood regarding my particular brake kit.
Thank you for the inquiry with Wilwood Disc Brakes.
We’re sorry to hear that happened. Unfortunately this particular kit uses press-in wheel studs that are a one-time seat into the rotors; they cannot be changed once they’re pressed into the rotor. We have found that if the original studs are pressed out, the material/knurls of the rotor can become weakened, so the new studs may not hold the proper amount of torque. As such, you will need to purchase a new rotor if the studs are damaged beyond repair.
