Wheels and Tires for 67 Cougar

I know this has been discussed many times but I need some guidance. I am currently purchasing 15x7 Legendary wheels from WCCC. I currently have 215x70R14, 25.9 height. Trying to decide what tire fits best. WCCC recommends 225x60R15, 25.6 height, but that is smaller diameter than what I have on now. Even 235x60R15, 26.1 height is only slightly larger. I am trying to fill the wheels wells just a little better but don’t want any rubbing issues. Seems I have plenty of room to expand. What about 225x70R15, 27.4 height? I’m open to suggestions.
Thanks for any help.

Remember, the more you change your tire size, the more speedometer error you will have.
I’m not sure what year your Cougar is. But I have 225 60 R15s on my 71 XR-7 all the way around(15x7 wheels). On my 70 XR-7 I have 235 60 R15s on the front with no problems and 255 60 R15s on the rear(157 on the front and 15x8s on the rear.

Thanks, its a 67 Cougar.

Might just stick with the 215x70R15 as the 14’s I have on look good and only going to 15’s.

Hey everyone,

Need to confirm, 1967 289 Standard.

Will I be good with 235x60R15 for the front? Will do the same on the back.

Legendary 15x7 wheels with 4.25 backspace.

Thanks for any input.

On my ‘68 XR7, I put P235/60R15 on 15x8 Cougar styled steel wheels in the rear and they rub on all turns, corners and road bumps. Front has P215/65R15 and is fine.

I am changing the rear to 15x7s with P215/70 R15.

How close is the upper ball joint to the tire on 225 X 60 x 15 on 15x7 Legendary Wheels with 4.25 backspace on a 1967 Cougar? And is it any different on 225 x 70 x 15? How much space do you need? Is .25" or less enough to run with no issues? BF Goodrich Radial TA’s.
Thanks for any input.
