When NOT to buy from WCCC / Buy Local?

There was a thread on the other site that got me to thinking about WCCC’s inability to be the used parts provider for the entire world and what to do about it. With the rapid growth of the internet, the huge interest Cougars have garnered in the last decade and the ever dwindling supply of good used parts (and my time) it is clear that WCCC cannot own the used parts market and nor do we want to. In almost every major city in America there is a “Cougar Guy” who has parted out a dozen or more old wrecks, knows where all the hard core enthusiasts reside and is a pretty good hand at certain repairs. I visit these guys occasionally or they travel to wholesale their parts to WCCC. It is good to rub shoulders with these guys, they know the body men in the area to stay away from and the ones to trust, they know what parts store in town that will order 5 FE water pumps for you, let you pick the date code and send the other four back… Here is a quote from a customer who wanted to purchase a grade “A” complete 69-70 convertible top mechanism from us recently and we encouraged him to buy from a trusted member of the Cougar community just down the road from where the car was being worked on. "Thanks to Brian, I now have a very nice replacement top frame as well as a pump and additional convertible parts. Great guy too, he drove them up from where he lives in Michigan and delivered them to the Upholstery shop that is doing the work. I’d like to thank Don for checking his inventory. He felt I would end up with a better frame at a better price buying from Brian.

I would like to start a list here of known sources for parts and in time, have that available on our site. Here is a couple to start off the list with…

Jim Henry / Red’s Cat House in Vanc. WA 360-254-5890 427cougar(at)msn.com Jim has a wide variety of 67-70 parts, some GTE / R code / Group II parts as well as the mundane. He will ship small parts on his time, he has some health constraints. Until he likes you, certain parts are “not for sale”. You know he likes you when he insults you often…

Kim Friesen Vanc. Canada. kc_friesen(at)hotmail.com Kim sells 69-70 parts and really prefers not to ship. Meticulous guy who hand polishes every used part before he inventories it. Very knowledgeable and has the utmost integrity. He uses our site to price his items and often sells them for about 50% of what we do.

I will let you that are on this forum (like Gary Brown and Randy Goodling) post your own info. Make sure you have their permission before posting and disguise the email addresses a little to ward off spam-bots. As you add to the list copy and paste the list from the previous post and just add your contribution to the top of the list. This way someone wanting the list does not have to peruse all previous posts to get the info.

Don, I know this thread is supposed to be about “the other guys”, but WCCC is my local “go to” guys. And with everything you do (and have done) for us Cougar folks, I think WCCC should definitely be on this list.

Don Rush / West Coast Classic Cougar, 5377 Waconda Rd NE, Salem, OR 97305 - 503.463.1130
These guys will bend over backwards to help you out. And if they can’t help you, they will direct you to someone who can.

Brian Carpenter Marshall Michigan I have 67/68/69 parts mostly used and some NOS. Selective on what I will sell as some of the parts are for my own cars. Not after big money for my used parts unless they are mint. Just like helping save other Cougars out there.
