I have been looking around for the start date for the XR7G, but can’t seem to find it. Any help on this would be great. Im replacing the backer boards on what was sold to me as XR7G panels and they do look like they have a bit more padding than standard panels, but the inspection stamp on the back says “Feb 1 1968” and another stamp that says, “Utica plant QC” there are some other markings around this stamp but not clear.
For the G panels, since they did have a little more padding in them, were they pulled apart at AO Smith?
Im wondering if the panels were stamped and the metal part pressed on and then the inspection stamps put on. This would explain a date difference if they were actually “G” panels, but the date being off.

February/March 1968 is when the Hertz cars were built. The XR7-G appeared in the Mercury showrooms starting in March 1968.
