Wanting to buy new, or rebuilt, Autolite 2100 2V carburetor for my 351W (H code).
Where can I purchase one.
When doing a "vacuum smoke test, smoke bellows out of my carburetor barrels. I don’t see smoke coming out anywhere else. Guessing I need a new carburetor.
Thanks
Was your idle screw backed out to allow throttle plates to completely close during the smoke test? Unless it has major damage, or is warped/cracked, 2100 is a good carb and not too hard to rebuild.
Is the item you’re calling a Plenum the spacer between the carb and intake manifold? If so you should not need 2 1/4 inch thick gasket. The paper ones that come in the rebuild kits are fine. Smoke coming out the barrels of the carb to me indicate the Butterflys are not completely closed and would be normal in that condition.
Also, why were you doing the smoke test? That may shed some light on what we should be thinking.
These carburetors are ridiculously easy to rebuild. Unlikely yours is defective. You need to buy a rebuild kit. Try setting the timing first, it may be the only thing wrong.
Follow Royces advice but plug every vacuum accessory off including booster and
Trans modulator. If idle improves, start plugging in vacuum accessory until you find the culpret.
I worked for a guy with a 69 cougar that felt like a dead cylinder…turned out to be a bad head light switch
