Dave and I were trying to come up with a title for this gizmo so we can list it on the site. Anyone want to take a stab at it? Bonus points, why does 69 differ from 70?
The one sprayed with under-coating id from my 69 and the other is from Dave taken from a 70. Who the heck carries one of these around when traveling from the East Coast?
Dave, of course.
Nice finds. As we can see these these were used to hold the end of the parking brake cables together until the metal bracket/union was installed IMHO. Similar to the practice of plastic striped used to hold the E brake ends up out of the way until the rearends were installed on 65-66 Mustangs at some plants.
For a tile - maybe Temporary E Brake Strap ?
Not sure if they are different from 69 to 70. Too few of examples to draw that conclusion at this point IMHO May just be multiple suppliers as Ford hated being held hostage if they used a single subcontactor for things like this. Just a possibility given what we have at this point
Hmmm… I am leaning more towards what Bob Perkins surmises and somewhere there is a picture of a NOS rear (So believes Dave W) on the supplier pallet showing the plastic tie. We believe it was used to tie the floppy brake cables together during shipment until the unit was installed and it was just as easy to leave it on the car as throw it on the floor. Would love to hear others findings.
Haven’t seen that picture and if it shows all of the cables in the shipment. If not they could have been supplied with each cable by the supplier. Ford would not have wanted to spend the time to installed them on each cable if they didn’t come that way. Also if they were on a cable to hold a group of cables together during shipment why did a worker (in the picture I posted) split the other end over the other cable end? Don’t thing the worker would have taken the time to hook the other end unless there was a reason IMHO and instead would have just left it hanging. BTW the picture is one of Bob’s unrestored cars with very low miles.
Having one per a collection of E brake cables might explain why so few have been found or seen.
The cable wrap doesn’t work for me at the present time given the evidence but good discussion and the learning continues
I like temp e cable strap and think I would concur with Jeff that it’s probably just different suppliers.
And wait…that’s the Eliminator you just acquired that you were going to either do a give away on or sell on ebay at $1 reserve up on the forks. Are you scrapping it now?
No… We only scrap cars beyond repair, mostly H / C / F Codes. This one actually shows evidence of being very low mile, still has 100% original exhaust and the underside is not as soft as one would expect.
