Jay is trying pretty much everything he can think of to try to run down the issue with the “Remember Me” function that is causing the repeated log ins. This is what he posted last: “I changed us to a different process manager to see if it fixes this issue. You’ll need to log out, then log back in, checking “Remember Me”, and see if it still logs you out over the next few days. Let me know.” We have turned in trouble tickets where possible and he is in touch on an Administrator forum to see if we have found a new bug in the software. We are waiting for any feedback on the most recent changes and it seems like things are working but it is too early to claim success.
I am actually pretty flattered that folks mistake this forum for something it is not; a real professional outfit. I take that as a compliment! What this is in reality is a community effort. Jay runs the back end of things with out being compensated in any way. He is fascinated by our infatuation with rusty old cars I think. I run the front end, which is to say that I wield about as much power as a crossing guard at an elementary school. The funding comes from a few donations. There are no ads. Your email address has never been sold to any one. The site looks the same whether you are a lurker or a signed in member.
We are not engaged in a race to build clicks, or site traffic. In fact we just had to double the amount of memory we have to avoid having to prune any old threads. We thought we would never need to do that… Anyway, the real owners of the site are the members that continue to answer questions and create the great content that keeps every one coming back.
If you’re frustrated by having to re-enter your username and password, you should look into activating the master password for your browser of choice, and set your browser to remember your login credentials for the site. It’s still annoying if you’re logged out when you told the site to remember you, but you won’t have to re-enter your login info repeatedly. Your browser will do it for you. You’ll just have to enter the master password once when you start your browser. It’s also much more easy to use a complicated, unique, secure, password for every site.
I think there are still extensions that will sync the passwords, bookmarks, etc., for the various browsers between devices, or you could use an online password manager, or install the same password manager on each device and sync the database. There are lots of options.
That car brings back memories. The '68 Dad had when I was a kid was originally that color. He ended up painting it red, but that was the car that got me hooked. Same wheels even. Great car.
What’s even crazier is it was one of two in my hometown back then. His '68 and a yellow '70 Eliminator. In a sea of muscle cars (back in the '70s), just two Cougars.
I learned to drive a 4 speed in a '68 Mustang Fastback of that same color back in 1978…of course I also learned how to scorch the tires in that Mustang too! It was my brother-in-law’s car who had badly hurt his hand (band saw accident) and he couldn’t drive his 4 speed. I traded my Cougar for his Mustang while he healed and drove it to school. When I did a huge burnout in the school parking lot the principle even gave me a thumbs up… right before he told me not to do that again! LOL!
Awesome!!! I remember looking for a parking spot my senior year and when I saw the open one that was right at my driver’s windows, mashed the brakes cranked the wheel and mashed the gas. Pulled perfectly in that spot, and got a round of applause from everyone. And of course my redneck cousin Rob who had a C.B. w/an intercom on his 4WD Chevy was like “FRIDAY!FRIDAY!FRIDAY!SEE STUNT DRIVER AL PARK A CAR LIKE NOBODY ELSE CAN! Don’t forget tip the waiting staff.”, which only added to the whole thing. Keep in mind this was in a '77 LTD II. Good times.
Bill thanks for all that you and Jay do for the Cougar Community. At least for me it’s way more than the "crossing guard " (heck, when did a crossing guard make anything fun ) . Crossing guards play a great role for the well being of our children but you and Jay contribute to the "well being " of grown ups and their toys.
On a side note I had to login again to post this while I was using the remember me function.
I too have had to log in pretty much every time, and sometimes more than once during a session. I’m going to see if this reply works, but sometimes I have to log in yet again after typing a reply. FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS!
G68 our single biggest problem is the intermittent nature of the problem. I have logged in and out many times today and never had an issue. Can you help us by letting us know when it fails? We could really use the help.
Bill, here is a perfect example. I posted my reply a little while ago and closed the site. When I checked back in I saw that I am not logged in even though I had checked the “remember me” box.
Bill, the post above took a couple tries. When I clicked submit, it took me to the login screen. When I logged in, my reply message was gone. I clicked the “Back” arrow a couple times and it got me back to my message and I was then able to submit it.
