Hi, have just found a '67/68 Mustang center console for sale here in N.Z. - they almost never come up here, so am keen to get it. I think it’s more for a '68 Cougar than my '67, as it has seat belt buckle recesses, the ‘roller door’ compartment and an ashtray at the end. My question is, would they be the same physical size as the Cougar one, and is it likely to fit ?
Yes - same console
Make sure its a coupe/fastback console! The convertibles are different!!
There is also a difference between with or without A/C. You can easily put an A/C console in a car without A/C but you will not fit a non A/C console in a car with A/C unless you cut part of the base off. If you have a factory radio you will need different knobs too. You do not mention if your car is an automatic or manual transmission. If you have an automatic you will need to replace the shifter with one for a console.

I thought that is only for 1965-1966 Mustangs?

No difference in the console base dimensions coupe vs convert, Mustang vs Cougar 67-68. Lost of changes on the pads and trim 67 vs 68 xr7 vs std but it is cosmetic only.
Yes,difference between coupe and convertible!! The seat platform is one piece on a 67 mustang convertible that goes from one side to the other over the center hump. And the convertible console is notched to fit
When you say notched do you mean a small rough hand in the plastic base cut like the cut seen on AC cars?
Its more of a recessed area than a notch. The seat platform is one piece, running side to side for the strength. So the console has a recessed area (between the seats) and the console is not as tall in that area.
Interesting… Not being a Mustang person it is easy for me to error on the nuances of interchange. Will keep my eye out at the next show.
