Wow! How rare are these?

18 hours left, and up over a hundred already??

I have one, maybe I should sell it.

Not a bad price actually. It will be interesting to see if it surges higher toward the end of the auction.

That seller has this also: MPC model 1970 Mercury Cougar Open Sportster (Factory Sealed) | eBay

There are actually 2 of them on Ebay right now.

I’ve got one also. It’s what’s referred to as a “garage kit”. The proportions are ever so slightly off and these type of kits require a lot of extra work and finessing on the builders part. If you are an experienced builder and patient they are a lot of fun. Challenging but fun.

Wow- I looked at the second kit, BIN for 165 and it has that big water spot on the box?? I might have been a buyer at closer to 50, I guess I’m just going to have to keep waiting…

I have seen 70 convertible kits go for as much as $250.

I don’t know that I’ve seen a stock 70 convertible kit model. Great. Now I will have to look for one of those, too…

Thanks for posting that. I got back on ebay real quick just to look, and I saw this- unreal money, for what it is-

i kinda like the front end of the one on the box.

What’s fun is the box art is painted to make the car look like it is moving fast, but there is no driver.

That’s MPC’s ( the model manufacturer ) 1970 version of the factory optional ‘autonomous driver’.

Just keep in mind someone can ask whatever they want. That doesn’t mean it’s worth it.

Yup. It’s worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

For those that may not be familiar with this Ebay feature, select the “Sold Items” under “Show Only” and you can see what people actually did pay. That is if the item you are looking for has sold recently. A check of the Microsport Trans Am Cougar shows that one sold for $115.50 on March 12.

Also, to reiterate, this is a garage kit, not a mass produced MPC or AMT kit. Which is to say it will require more work to complete.

Oh sure- I’ve seen lots of items that had to have cost more to keep listed than what they could have sold for-but you never know what ho doesn’t know, or who does know what something is worth to some one else…
